Short story

The Blond Man Next Door

In the 1920’s, a rural Australian family loses their father, a veteran of the Great War, in an accident, and the middle child, the only girl in the family, secretly plants a seed in the soil of his grave. Shortly after, she starts visiting the quiet blond man at the cattle farm next door and nobody seems to know why.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the short story, which beautifully captures the essence of the Australian bush. The author’s descriptive writing brings the landscape to life, immersing the reader in the vibrant yet perilous surroundings. The story effectively conveys the dangers present in this wild terrain, particularly the presence of Australia’s infamous deadly snakes, reminding us of the need for caution in such an unpredictable environment. Overall, it’s a captivating read that paints a vivid picture of both the beauty and the risks associated with the Australian wilderness.”
